Each state is represented by two senators, no-matter the population, who serve six-year terms. The Senate has several exclusive powers some of which are dealing with foreign affairs, including consenting to treaties nd consenting to or confirming appointments of Cabinet secretaries, federal judges, other federal executive officials, military officers, regulatory officials, ambassadors, and other federal uniformed officers, and also trial of federal officials impeached by the House. The Senateis considered more prestigious body than the House of Representatives, due to its longer terms, smaller size, and statewide constituencies, they were seen as being more of the elite nature than commoners of the house.
